Indigenous Australians targeted by Sydney’s intoxication laws

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are disproportionately arrested for public intoxication, highlighted by the New South Wales Council for Civil Liberties.

The increasing number of alcohol-free zones in Sydney has also been criticised as a ‘creeping imposition’ on the public’s access to shared spaces.

Speaking to NRN’s Frank Bonaccorso, Secretary Timothy Roberts explains how the current penalties and police enforcement in these zones largely affect Indigenous Australians.
