Film: Strange Darling
Making its debut at the 2023 Fantastic Fest in Austin, Texas, Strange Darling (2023) follows the years-long chase between a cop and a serial killer. They first meet with the cop unbeknownst to the serial killer’s intentions, narrowly escaping death. This movie is told in six non-consecutive chapters that allow you to piece the story together.

Film: Blink Twice
Blink Twice (2024) is Zoe Kravitz’s debut film starring Naomi Ackie and Channing Tatum. Frida (Ackie) is making ends meet as a waitress and meets the famed Slater (Tatum) at a function she is working. She falls under his charming spell and abandons her job at an invite to his private island. Despite being basked in the never-ending sunshine, things start to turn sour when Frida starts to have haunting visions. If you’re a fan of “Midsommar”, definitely check out this one out.

Television: Morning Wars
Renewed for a fourth season, Morning Wars (2019) is a topical show commenting on the work culture of news broadcasting. It is based off the novel “Top of the Morning” by Brian Stelter, published in 2013. The television show covers topics from the #MeToo movement to COVID-19 to the war in Ukraine. The most recent season focuses on the prospect of the program being bought out due to its lack of viewership.

Album: Woodland by Gillian Welch and David Rawlings
In Wayne’s top ten albums of the year, possibly even top five, is Gillian Welch and David Rawling’s Woodland (2024). The album’s title comes from the name of their studio in Nashville which had its roof torn off four years ago by a tornado. Woodland is their first album of original material since 2011. Between then and now, they mainly recorded covers with a few demos here and there. This album has ten songs, expertly cut down from one hundred. Woodland lends itself to the bluegrass and country genres with supreme guitar features, rhythm, pedal steel, and vocal harmonies. The list could go on!
