Recouping Student HECS loans

The federal government might have to write off more than 13 billion dollars in student loans, because graduates aren’t earning enough to start paying them back.

It sounds like quite a hole to be in and various proposals are being put on the table as a way of fixing it, but it doesn’t sound like students or really anyone who cares about affordable education in this country is going to like them.

We spoke to Ben Eltham, the National Affairs Correspondent for New Matilda about the situation and the government’s possible solutions.
