It’s not often that you’ll find the original version of a song was actually recorded by the more famous act, but that’s what exactly happened with The Temptations’ 1970 track War, later made famous by Edwin Starr.

This week on Under the Covers, Max and Thomas looked back at the titular protest song against the Vietnam War, and why the Motown label had it re-recorded by a smaller artist, and the songwriters behind it.
