If you’re a Sydney gig hopper, there’s a high chance you’ve stumbled across Milly McPherson.

She’s a twenty-year-old singer/songwriter living right here in Sydney and is getting ready to record her debut album. If you haven’t seen her around with her solo project, you may also recognise her as the former lead vocalist of “June and The Desert Flames”. 

Inspired by artists like Florence and the Machine and Courtney Barnett, Milly’s powerful voice draws listeners in from far and wide. Alongside her band (Oliver Hitchen, Sunny Capron and Ben Gordon), she produces a memorable and high-energy live show. Exploring themes of anxiety, young love and loss, she melds the genres of rock, indie and pop to create her own distinct sound.

After gigging around Sydney for the better part of a year, Milly and her band are settling down to record their debut album. But, as many know, making a record can be pricey – so she put on a HUGE fundraiser gig in September to raise some money.

Taking place at the Petersham Bowlo on the 5th of September, the gig was high energy and evidently made with love. Boasting a stacked line up made up of: Riki Twinkle, Sofia Carey, Moose Ends and the After Thoughts – it was a night to be remembered.

She sat down with Dream State host Jas to chat all about going solo, creating an album and the timelessness of Fleetwood Mac’s (super underground album) Rumours.
