Hereditary Democracy: Political and Civic Implications

In a time where nepotism is acknowledged as unfair in the workplace, democratic voters continue to support it in the political theatre by limiting office to those with family connections.

A recent article published in the Journal of Democracy explores the presence of hereditary democracy worldwide.

While they undermine the democratic process, hereditary democracies were found to outnumber hereditary autocracies and to facilitate the rise of women leaders.
