Water Safety Skills for Preschoolers with a Disability
Swimming is a vital skill to have in Australia, especially in areas like Parramatta and Canterbury-Bankstown which unfortunately have some of the highest levels of drowning in Sydney.
And trying to address the factors that can lead to drownings can be very challenging, especially when we look at pre-schoolers from diverse backgrounds who have a disability. Fortunately, Parramatta Acquatic Centre and Royal Life Saving have partnered up to run the Water Safety Skills for Preschoolers with a Disability program, a free initiative that aims to teach western Sydney preschool children all about water safety in a supportive environment. To find out more about the program, 2SER caught up with Lord Mayor of Parramatta Martin Zaiter and paralympic swimming gold medallist Timothy Hodge.
