Over 1 million workers at risk as penalty rate cuts
Over a million Australian workers are at risk of penalty rate cuts under a potential Coalition government, as Shadow minister for employment, Michaelia Cash, has refused to rule out supporting these changes.
The Australian Retailers Association has proposed scrapping overtime, evening, and weekend penalties, which would impact workers across various industries, including retail.
Unions are concerned that this could set a dangerous precedent, reducing workers’ rights and protections in favour of big business interests.
