Walking the Kokoda Track with Bill James
This Saturday will mark the 75th anniversary of the First Battle of the Kokoda Track Campaign, the first of a series of battles fought in 1942 in the Pacific War of World War II.
Bill James is the author of Field Guide to the Kokoda Track: An Historical Guide to the Lost Battlefields, in its third edition, and he was inspired to write the book after walking the 96 kilometre Track for the first time in 1999 and realising the overgrown New Guinean jungle had reclaimed many of the battles’ historical sites. He spent the next eight to nine years walking and researching the Kokoda Track, which resulted in the publication of his book that documents the sites of wartime significance, and is a great guide for Kokoda trekkers.
He joined Nic to chat more about his book and experiences on the Kokoda Track.
