Liberal and One Nation preference deal? Please Explain

This week the Western Australian Liberal party have struck a deal to preference One Nation over the nationals in their upcoming state election. Given the sheer amount of time the Nationals and Liberals have been a coalition, this deal brings with it some serious implications for the state’s political landscape. It’s already causing divisions of opinion in the federal coalition ranks, with deputy prime minister Barnaby Joyce speaking of his opposition to the deal.

To discuss this, we spoke to Dr Bligh Grant, the Senior Lecturer at the Institute for Public Policy and Governance on the line to discuss this new groundbreaking precedence.
