Leading academics has prompted the Federal Government to act now to introduce a new tax, the ‘Sugar Tax.’ Experts have accumulated evidence that has linked weight gain, diabetes and dental problems with sugary drinks. Their proposed plan will lead to controls similar to those on alcohol and tobacco. 75% of people aged 9-18 exceed World Health Organisation Sugar-Intake Recommendations. This statistic is expected continually to grow. Britain has taken lead and declared they will be implementing a tax on sugar in 2018… will Australia follow? Professor Timothy Gill from the University of Sydney joined the show to discuss the ‘sugar tax’.
