The watering down of HSC English
Last week we spoke about the major ramifications the new HSC reforms will set in train for Aussie Year 12 kids. But within the past few days, the English Teachers Association has voiced some major antagonism to the changes, claiming the revamp is incompatible with securing a decent English education. It’s been labelled “an unprecedented watering down” of the English Syllabus and a “vandalism of the subject”, with prominent teachers stipulating Year 12 kids could finish Year 12 ”without even reading a book.”
To specify what exactly the changes consist of, and to get his opinion on whether the overhaul will enhance or compromise the English education agenda, we spoke to Dr Don Carter, Senior Lecturer English Education at UTS.
