Are We Awake interview with Charles O’Grady
As we move into March, theatres across Sydney have started rolling into their new seasons for the year. The old Fitzroy Theatre in Kings Cross has just started its New Fitz season, featuring plays inspired by or responding to the productions on its main stage.
The first production is Charles O’Grady’s Are We Awake, a tender look at a relationship splitting apart at the seams. Charles O’Grady is a playwright whose previous works include Kaleidoscope, Telescope and Before the Water Gets Cold, plays with strong queer characters and explorations of identity and gender.
Producer Sam Baran sat down with Charles to discuss his latest play, starting with the slightly unusual names of its main characters.
