World Refugee Crisis: Could Refugee Cities be an alternative to Refugee Camps?

Currently, the situation of refugees isn’t getting better. Millions of people have lost their lives and are still struggling to survive. On average, refugees spend 12 years in refugee camps. For this reason humanitarian experts have proposed the establishment of special enterprise zones (SEZ) encompassing these camps to transform them into refugee cities. This could be a great opportunity not only to re-invigorate a sense of society in these people through education and application of skills useful in within the SEZ, as well as upon their eventual return to their homelands. This can also benefit investors as a SEZ could be a self-sustaining resource. The Daily spoke with Michael Castle Miller, executive director of the organization Refugee Cities to further discuss future developments.
