Ibuprofen’s Link to Cardiac Arrest.
According to experts, common painkillers including ibuprofen, increase a person’s risk of cardiac arrest by a third. Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that is commonly used in medication targeting fever and pain-relief. Professors across the globe argue that “..because these drugs are purchased without any prescription, and without any advice or restrictions, [it] sends a message to the public that it must be safe.” Chief Medical Officer at the Australian Heart Foundation, Garry Jennings, responds to this study of accumulating evidence saying that “although this is a relatively small risk, it seems to be fairly real.” As these findings continue to unfold, professors urge people to take these medications for the shortest possible time at the lowest possible dose in times where it is needed.
