Tipping the Scales – Curbing Australia’s obesity trend
The Government has recently been called on by a group of Australian Health Experts to take tougher action on the advertising of junk food and sugary drinks. Recent figures show over 63% of adults and 23% of children in Australia are above the healthy weight range, which can be detrimental to an individual’s physical and mental well being. Junk food advertising has been said to be the driving force of unhealthy eating habits, but further measures need to be taken to curb this concerning trend.
The Daily spoke to Dr. Steven Allender, Director of The Global Obesity Centre at Deakin University to talk about a new initiative called ‘Tipping The Scales’ which aims to combat the poor diet and growing obesity in Australia.
