Asylum Seekers with a Disability: The Forgotten Refugees
One can only begin to imagine the trials and tribulations people face when seeking asylum. But little thought is often had as to how much more difficult that journey is for people with a disability.
Professor Ron McCallum has dedicated much of his professional life to campaigning for greater recognition of the adversities of disabled refugees. In 2008, he was elected to the first Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities of the United Nations which monitors compliance with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
This morning, he joined Nic to discuss the issues facing these ‘forgotten refugees’ ahead of the release of The Legal Protection of Refugees with Disabilities, a book he has worked on with other legal experts.
