Lawrence English on the power of art and words
Composer, media artist, curator and man of many talents Lawrence English chatted to Nic about his upcoming exhibitions at the two Powerhouse centres in Casula and Ultimo. His first appearance is at Soft Centre, an electronic music festival drawing inspiration from international experimental festivals. His work is also featured in the This is a Voice exhibition, a visual and acoustic feast which explores the nature and power of the human voice.
Lawrence talked about his 17-year stint at the ROOM40 label, the art and music community, the fluidity of human identity over time and why he thinks 2017 is a transitory period echoing the DIY aesthetic of the 90s and 2000s.
You can see Lawrence perform at Soft Centre on September 23 at Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre. His exhibition will be on display until January 2018 at MAAS.
