Tuesday Book Club: ‘Nevermoor’ by Jessica Townsend
This week on Tuesday Book Club, Andrew Pople from Final Draft introduced us to the enchanting new series ‘Nevermoor’ by debut Australian author Jessica Townsend. ‘Nevermoor’ tells the story of Morrigan Crow, the 10 year old daughter of a senior politician from the Republic where she lives. Morrigan is feared and blamed for all social ills, scorned as a “cursed child” having been born on the first day of her era.
Fortunately, Morrigan escapes her home, spirited off to the magical world of Nevermoor by a mysterious rescuer. She faces many trials – including dark magic and monsters – however her biggest challenge is overcoming her anxieties, her personal foibles and the pressure she feels from her family to grow up and become “someone”.
Townsend has created a compelling world with rewarding characters and an ever-lurking sense of danger. This new Australian young-adult fantasy series with its complex female protagonist has great sequel potential, so jump on the Nevermoor bandwagon!
