Major improvements to the Harbour Bridge cycleway announced
Riding your bike across the Sydney Harbour Bridge is set to become a whole lot easier, following the publication of new cycleway access ramp plans by the Road and Maritime Service. The Harbour Bridge is already Sydney’s most popular cycleway, however bicycle commuters currently have to negotiate a flight of 55 steps at the northern end, along with a steep, narrow shared path at the southern end. Nic was joined by President of not-for-profit community organisation BIKESydney to celebrate the milestone after years of advocacy work. The new ramps will create a safe and seamless cycleway connection all the way from North Sydney to Central Station.
In other cycling news: there’s a push to legalise riding on footpaths in NSW amid cyclist safety concerns; bikeshare companies in Sydney are offering free rides in December; and there’s a City of Sydney “Foodie Ride” happening in Alexandria this Saturday morning, December 16th! The Foodie Ride is free to all, registrations required.
