Why Are Antivenom Stocks In Regional Australia Dwindling?

Getting bitten by a snake can be a very real risk here in Australia. There were over 6,000 hospitalisations between 2001-2013 from snakebites and 27 deaths in the same period. When bitten by a snake, standard practice is to seek help at a hospital or medical centre.

But new research from the Australian Venom Research Unit (AVRU) has brought to light dwindling stocks of antivenom in regional hospitals across Australia. The Daily was joined by Dr Timothy Jackson from the AVRU at The University of Melbourne.
