Back pain: Australia spends almost $5 billion on treatments for it every year, and yet it’s still one of the main reasons for GP visits. Spinal Fusion Surgery is among several therapies out there that your doctor might recommend- but it’s caused much disagreement in the surgical community due to limited evidence for its effectiveness. Nic chatted to Ian Harris, Professor in Orthopaedic Surgery at UNSW, about what the surgery is, what medical conditions might prompt it, and why its use is increasing.
