How Far Cry 5 created a believable cult leader
Far Cry 5, the latest installment of the popular series from Ubisoft, takes a very interesting approach to its main antagonist, serving up a villain who truly believes that he is a hero.
Joseph Seed is the a charismatic leader of a doomsday cult in rural Montana who devoutly practices what he preaches and has unshakable faith that his actions are righteous.
It sounds remarkable, but people like Joseph exist in real life. To accurately portray what it is like to interact with a doomsday cult, Ubisoft got the help of Rick Ross, an expert on cults and founder of the Cult Education Institute.
Rick joined us in the studio with Dan Hay, studio lead for Far Cry 5 to explain to us how they managed to capture the accuracy of cult culture in a game, and how that creates a unique experience for the player.
