Venezuelan Elections

On Sunday, Nicolas Maduro was re-elected as president of Venezuela, reportedly capturing 68 per-cent of the total votes cast. This result has been met with international condemnation, with both Maduro and his ruling Socialist Party accused of rigging the election by trading votes for much needed food and supplies while also banning the two most popular opposition leaders from competing. The Daily was joined by Dr Luis Angosto Ferrandez, Senior Lecturer in the Department of Spanish and Latin American Studies and the Department of Anthropology at the University of Sydney.
