Chronic Fatigue Syndrome: A Misunderstood Illness
Have you ever felt tired, had sore muscles or had headaches? Chances are you have. But imagine these symptoms lasted for months, even years, with medical tests coming back completely normal. There’s a possibility that Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, otherwise known as Myalgic Encephalitis, is the core reason for these symptoms. Chronic Fatigue is an illness which affects the nervous system and currently 200 000 Australians suffer from it.
CFS/ME can be a devastating illness for those who suffer with it but research around the condition is still reasonably unclear on what causes it, and what can treat it. Dr. Mark Guthridge, Senior research fellow for the Australian Centre for Blood Diseases at Monash University, joined the Daily to discuss new research and developments happening around the illness.
