Weekend Warrior with Anthony Dockrill

Anthony Dockrill is back in studio with the news we may or may not have snoozed through this weekend…

With a weekend packed to the brim with important sporting events, namely the State of Origin and the World Cup, you’d think there’d be no room left for controversy. But controversy there was with Friday’s women’s State of Origin game. The picture of Karina Brown and Vanessa Foliaki’s kiss flooded news feeds nationwide and disgruntled many within the footy community. Many claimed the photograph was ‘sexualising the women’s league’, with the NRL responding in a no-nonsense, clear-cut fashion. Perhaps it is “time to join 2018”.

Peter Dutton graced our screens as well this weekend, with a new statement about ‘guarding against compassion to refugees’. Dutton’s no-fuss approach with this new solution for stopping people smugglers seems to have taken a leaf out of the NRL’s book. But as for how ‘appreciative’ the refugees on Manus and Nauru are? That’s likely to be a different story…

And finally, Sarah Huckabee Sanders was denied a dining experience with her family this weekend. Owner of the “Red Hen” restaurant in Washington refused to serve Sanders and her family due to her defence of Trump’s policies on immigration and gay rights. But was this the right response? Should politics rule what we’re plating up?
