Positive KPIs boosting performance of nurses
Every profession has a set of key performance indicators, be it speed, sales or customer attrition.
But nursing and midwifery, because of its nature, is harder to quantify.
Previous KPIs for nursing include the amount of drug errors made or how often a patient falls out of bed, but metrics such as these don’t give a true picture of what nursing involves.
Val Wilson is part of an international team of researchers who are developing new KPIs to measure nurses performance.
Val is a Professor of Nursing Research and Practice Development at the University of Technology Sydney and Sydney’s Children’s Hospital Network.
The KPIs are currently undergoing a pilot study in paediatric hospitals in Denmark, Ireland, Northern Island, London and Australia, with astonishing results.
