Mental health post-transplant under the knife
For many people, having a transplant is a gift that brings a new lease of life.
And while many transplant patients are thankful for a new organ, there can be difficulties readjusting to a new lifestyle.
International research lead by Sabina de Geest has looked at the psychosocial issues faced by organ transplant patients. Sabina is the Professor of Nursing and Director of the Institute of Nursing Science and Chair of the Department of Public Health of the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Basel, Switzerland. She is also an adjunct professor at the University of Technology, Sydney. She was recently in Sydney as part of the Australasian Cardiovascular Nursing College Conference to talk about her research.
We also chat to Max Mohr, a liver transplant recepient, to find out just how much mental health can be affected post transplant.
