The Irony of the “Little Shop” Craze

Coles banned single-use plastic bags, then they didn’t, and now they might. At the same time, they’ve introduced a suite of small plastic replicas of popular Australian grocery items as collectibles to drive sales. What?

What is going on with their messaging on plastic? What are the environmental impacts of the Little Shop toys? Why are Coles bothering to maintain a facade of environmental consciousness?

To get to the bottom of all of this mixed messaging Tess spoke to Zoe Deans, the plastic campaigner for Greenpeace Australia about the potential environmental consequences of the Little Shop toys and ways to stop the frivolous use of plastic.
