Drug testing welfare recipients

The Australian Federal Government has announced its next tough initiative in its “war on drugs”, as 5000 Newstart Allowance or Youth Allowance welfare recipients across 3 locations will be required to undergo random drug testing as of January 2018. If drugs are detected, their welfare might be cut. But there are concerns about how random or ethical the drug testing will be as it is based on a data – driven profiling tool.

Bronwen Dalton, Associate Professor at the University of Technology, Sydney Business School joined presenter Myles to discuss the issue.
