Powerlifter Stephanie Lara on 2ser
Tess Connery sat down on Breakfast with Stephanie Lara, who lifted her way in to the Australian record books by deadlifting 190kg in the Junior Class at the National Powerlifting Championships in Melbourne on August 4th.
Stephanie told us about her progression to Powerlifting, starting originally as part of her recovery process from dislocating her shoulder in Soccer. After using it to test her strength during the recovery period she stuck with powerlifting, having been drawn in by the community spirit around the sport. We also heard about the championship itself, from the intense competitive nature of the day to the focus of the moment itself and the support of her friends afterwards.
Keep an eye out for Stephanie as she progresses to the Open Nationals in Melbourne in the coming weeks. You can follow Stephanie’s on her Instagram, @stephlara_ .
