Developing midwives in low and middle income countries
We have spoken many times on the program about the importance of having quality midwives in low and middle-income countries. They are vital for helping to reduce child and maternal mortality, by providing expert care and advice before, during and after labour.
But the skill of the midwives reflects on who trained them, and if their mentor is unskilled, it can be a problem.
Florence West is a PhD student at the University of Technology Sydney. She is currently looking at the best strategies for improving midwifery trainers and educators in low and middle income countries.
