2SER Bob Dylan Birthday Marathon 27th May 8pm – 4am!
For the last three years Bob Dylan has been channelling Frank Sinatra in over 50 songs made famous [or not] by “Old Blue Eyes“. Perhaps Bob sees himself as the natural inheritor of Sinatra’s mantle of the rebellious contrarian who always did it his way. And Bob certainly does do these selections from the Great American Songbook his way. Our feature album will be the recently released Triplicate, a 3 CD set of melancholy crooners painted in all the shades of Minnesota.
For the last 30 years 2SER’s Bob Dylan Birthday Marathon has been celebrating the Pulitzer prize-winning Nobel Laureate’s birthday with news, reviews, interviews, the Dylan Quiz – and all the Bobsongs that fit. We will be featuring Bob’s 36 CD set of brilliant live recordings from the infamous 1965/66 tour – and prognosticating on the rumours about the Bootleg Series Vol 13 – which may well be about the Gospel Years 1979 to 1981 when Bob, in the throes of great conviction, witnessed for Jesus from the stage. Thankfully the apocalypse was postponed and Bob’s brilliant career took another score of twists and turns. We will be playing Bobsongs from every decade and stage of his long career.
As ever there will be a profusion of live versions, soundtrack contributions, rare tracks and snippets from his years as the sagacious DJ of early to mid 20th century popular music. So for 8 hours and over 5 decades of Bobcat Heaven tune into 2SER and throw a party to celebrate the birthday of His Bobness. Saturday 27th May 8pm to 4am.
