Pregnancy a “risk factor” for domestic violence
Nearly 20% of women have faced violence within the home at some point in their life.
Domestic abuse can come in many forms – it can be physical, emotional, could be financial control – and in some cases can even occur when a woman is pregnant.
In many cases, domestic violence will increase or present for the first time when a woman is pregnant.
A seminar coordinated by The Centre for Midwifery, Child and Family Health at UTS is looking at the best ways to support women and protect children affected by domestic violence.
Rachel Smith is a Lecturer in Nursing, Midwifery and Health at UTS and is speaking as part of the seminar. She speaks to Jake Morcom.
