Bleaching recovery doesn’t mean corals are invincible

Earlier this year it was documented that nearly 95% of the Great Barrier Reef was affected by coral bleaching, resulting in massive mortality across multiple ecosystems.

But since El Niño ended, some corals have shown signs of recovery as sea surface temperatures dropped back down to normal, particularly those in Sydney Harbour.

So what does coral bleaching recovery say about our coral ecosystems? Are they able to hold their ground or is it a warning from nature?
