More Civil Societies: Student protests

Thousands of schoolchildren across the country defied calls from Prime Minister Scott Morrison to stay in classes by walking out of school and calling on the government to act on climate change. Resources Minister Matt Canavan told 2GB he wants Australia to develop all energy sources, including solar and coal, and would rather the students learn about science and mining before adding “the best thing you’ll learn about going to a protest is how to join the dole queue.”

On this week’s More Civil Societies, Julie Macken explains why it was so important to hear their voices, and how Canavan’s sentiment just continues to prove how out of touch our politicians are – before naming the 24 politicians, on both sides of politics, who have a financial stake in the coal industry.
