Government Sued Over Refugee Treatment

Two class action lawsuits have been launched against the the Commonwealth of Australia, as mounting pressure on the Morrison government to shut down operations on Manus Island and Nauru continues to gain momentum. Led by QC Julian Burnside, the suits have been put forward on behalf of the approximately 1,200 remaining refugees and asylum seekers in offshore processing centres  and the group will claim they have been subjected to “torture, crimes against humanity and the intentional infliction of harm by the Australian government.” To shed a little light on the process and what we might expect to come out of this The Tuesday Daily was joined by Professor Alex Reilly the Director of Public Law & Policy Research Unit at the University of Adelaide.
