Drowning Rates on the Rise
According to the Royal Life Saving Society Australia’s Summer Drowning Toll, 50 per cent more people have drowned so far this summer than last summer. This time last summer, 36 people had drowned in Australian waters. However, as of today, January 7 2019, 51 people have drowned this summer. On New Year’s Day alone, four people drowned. It’s more important than ever to know how to get out of a tricky situation – and how to avoid getting in one in the first place.
Justin Scarr, CEO of the Royal Life Saving Society Australia, joined us on the Daily to talk about water safety.
