The Thread :: 2:00pm 5th Feb 2019

Welcome to The Thread – a show which links one song to the next and then that song to the next, etc.

This thread starts with Died Pretty’s ‘Everyone Moves’, before we head to Austin, Texas for White Denim and their song ‘Moves On’.  From there, its off to Curtis Mayfield’s masterpiece ‘Move On Up’ , clocking in at almost nine glorious minutes.

From Curtis Mayfield, we move to Curtis Harding and his song ‘On And On’ from the album ‘Face Your Fear’.  That album is produced by Danger Mouse.  So it makes sense to move to Karen O & Danger Mouse’s new song ‘Woman’.

And so follows a group of songs with ‘Woman’ in the title:

‘Strong Woman’ from Jen Cloher’s self-titled album, ‘I Am A Woman’ by Ruby Boots, ‘Woman’ from Cat Power’s latest album ‘Wanderer’, ‘Six Foot Woman’ by Caroline Rose, Electric Light Orchestra’s ‘Sweet Talkin’ Woman’ and Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Gold Dust Woman’ from their ‘Rumours’ album.

Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Rumours’ album also features a song called ‘Dreams’ which, whilst not featured here, is the tenuous link to the next song ‘Dream State’ from Jess Williamson’s album ‘Cosmic State’.

From a song on an album called ‘Cosmic State’, we move to ‘Cosmic Cave’ – a new song from Ex Hex.  Ex Hex features Mary Timony on lead vocal and she was a member of Wild Flag, a four-piece which also featured Carrie Brownstein and Janet Weiss from Sleater-Kinney.

Starting with Sleater-Kinney’s ‘End Of You’ from ‘The Hot Rock’, we move to a group of songs featuring ‘End’ in the title from Boys, Aaron Lee Tasjan (pronounced exactly as it looks Tas Jan),  Ghostpoet, Deer Tick, Eels and Courtney Marie Andrews.

From Courtney Marie Andrews, we move to another Courtney – Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile from their album ‘Lotta Sea Lice’ and then to Robert Ellis and Courtney Hartman’s cover of John Hartford’s song ‘Gentle on my Mind’.  Then its off to ‘Tom Courtenay’ from Yo La Tengo.

Moving from a song called ‘Tom Courtenay’ to a band fronted by Tom Morgan – Smudge’s ‘The Outdoor Type’ and then to another Tom – Tom Petty and his song ‘Runnin’ Down A Dream’.  Wagons had covered that song live, so we play Wagons brilliant tune ‘Willie Nelson’ before finishing up with Willie Nelson himself ‘On The Road Again’.

Hope you enjoy the show!
