Will a uniform volumetric tax on alcohol reduce alcohol-related harm?

Alcohol costs the Australian society between $15 billion and $36 billion per year. Does increasing the price of harm reduce the cost on society?

The Royal Australasian College of Physcians think so, and are proposing a volumetric tax on alcohol which could increase the price of wine.

But the wine industry isn’t so convinced it will make a difference.
