Cyclone Debbie

Ex-tropical Cyclone Debbie ruined homes, businesses and infrastructure similarly, which left lots of Australians devastated by the destruction of their livelihoods. Though an extreme weather event like Ex-tropical Cyclone Debbie causes severe winds, it is the storm surge and rainfall that brings with it the biggest risk to cities – because at the end of the day, all the water has to go somewhere.

Professor of Sustainable Urban Environments at the University of Technology Sydney, Rob Roggema joined The Daily to speak about the potential for Australians to design cities differently to withstand future natural disasters.
