Saturday

Mardi Gras weekend is coming up and in lead up to it, the Mardi Gras Film Festival has kicked off. Check out Mapplethorpe, a bio-pic of the iconic Robert Mapplethorpe’s art and sexuality, tonight at Event Cinemas from 6.30pm. Snag your tickets here.

Sunday

The official Fair Day After Party is happening at the Seymour Centre, across the road from Victoria Park, tomorrow from 9pm. Expect DJ sets from Betty Grumble and pop-up performances by Trigger Happy’s and Garret Lyon. Tickets are $5 and you just pay at the event.

Monday

Head to Carriageworks from Monday for Koori Gras – a series of creative cultural arts events featuring local, interstate and international First Nations qweer artists, thinkers and communities. Black Nulla will be performing the whole week so check it out. There’ll also be events throughout the week which may require tickets in advance.

Tuesday

Get your mid-week art fix with Damien Minton presenting 4 shows in 4 weeks at the Sheffer Gallery. Week 1 revolves around themes of street art. It’s free to see and starts at 6pm in Darlington.

Wednesday

Art Gallery of New South Wales is showing a film series called Neon God. There’ll be no shortage of quirky themes from spells cast in video game arcades to horoscopes in high-stakes business deals. It’s free to go but you do have to register at the door. Make sure to head to the Domain Theatre an hour before screening – first in best dressed!

Thursday

Uncertain Territory is launching at ArtBank this Thursday. It includes works by Uri Auerbach, Tina Havelock Stevens, Alana Hunt, Kandos School of Cultural Adaptation, and more.  an exhibition that brings together the work of contemporary Australian artists who explore and confront environmental, political and cultural tensions in the landscape. It’s free to see and the opening kicks off at 6pm.

Friday

Before you know it – it’s Friday again! Start the weekend off with Artivista: A night of women in hip-hip.Set performances by headliner Maya Jupiter, MC Trey, Ghenoa Fela, Mirrah, Kween G, and more. Tickets are $12-15 at the door. Have a boogie from 9pm at The Red Rattler Theatre.
