Caring for Grandparents when their Grandchildren have cancer

When a child is living with cancer, it is not only a massive stress on the child themselves, but also their family.

Most therapies and interventions available for the family are aimed at helping the parents – but when it comes to grandparents and siblings, these services often drag behind.

Claire Wakefield is an Associate Professor from the University of New South Wales and also leads one of Australia’s largest pyscho-oncology research groups, the Behavioural Sciences Unit, part of the Kids Cancer Centre at Sydney Children’s Hospital.

Claire spends a lot of her time working with families to better cope and manage caring for a child experiencing cancer.
