Psychedelics in Neuroscience

Psychedelics are commonly associated with hippies, tie-dye hued festivals and the drug of counterculture in the 60s.

However, the science of psychedelics is slowly shaking off that image with thanks to the investigation into the medical and scientific revolution taking place around psychedelic drugs.

Naturally occurring psychoactive psilocybin is the hallucinogenic compound in magic mushrooms and LSD, and is proving remarkable benefits in neuroscience. Including; cognitive flexibility, helps combat PTSD, depression, addiction, and improves creativity and insight.

2SER spoke to Melissa Warner a graduate of Neuroscience at the University of Melbourne about the research. She is a member of the management committee of Psychedelic Research in Science & Medicine and EO of Mind Medicine Australia.
