Tarik Abdulhak

Tarik didn’t set out to be an expert in the history of Cambodia, Bosnia or Syria, but his work as an international lawyer has made him one. As a Senior Prosecutor in the trials of the leaders of the Khmer Rouge, Tarik was involved in the sentencing of senior figures of the regime. The charges against them included genocide and crimes against humanity, with the Khmer Rouge responsible for more than a million deaths through abuse, starvation, forced labor and mass execution.

More recently Tarik has been working with the Commission for International Justice and Accountability, which has compiled more than six hundred thousand government documents from Syria, gathering evidence for any international criminal case that occurs in the future. This type of pre-emptive information gathering is virtually unheard of, and could shape the way major players in the Syrian War are held accountable in years to come.
