How midwives and obstetricians view VBAC
It’s common knowledge that vaginal birth is more beneficial for mums and bubs than a caesarean section, yet Australia still has one of the highest caesarean rates in the world.
Part of the problem is that once you have had a caesarean section, there is a perception in the healthcare system that you can’t have a vaginal birth for your second or subsequent children.
Maralyn Foureur is a Professor of Midwifery at the University of Technology Sydney. She has looked at how midwives and obstetricians view the practicalities of vaginal birth after caesarean section (VBAC).
