Youth Mental Health Service batyr Receives $2.8 million Government Funding
Upon returning to Australia, Prime Minister Scott Morrison has announced that the federal government is putting $2.8 million towards expanding the online presence of batyr, an organisation focused on removing the stigma of mental health among young people by educating them on how to reach out, and what mental health is. The funding will be used to build an interactive digital platform that will feature lived experience speakers telling their story and house plenty of resources for young people suffering in silence. This will allow them to reach more young people across Australia, particularly those living in regional locations. Of a typical classroom of 30 students, 7 will be living with mental ill-health. Only 2 will reach out for support leaving 5 young people suffering in silence. batyr programs manager Josh Wiseman joined us to discuss.
