‘Love-bombing’ for Indigenous Cultural Acceptance
Indigenous cultural sites carry a deep and living significance. However, recognition of this importance by government and mainstream society is difficult to come by. Currently, this can be seen with the protests to stop the Victorian government from bulldozing the sacred trees of the Djab Wurrung to the unnecessary outcry over the decision to stop allowing people to climb Uluru to prevent further degradation.
So what can be done to better protect Indigenous sites of cultural heritage? Dr Emma Lee is a trawlwulwuy woman from tebrakunna country, north-east Tasmania and a Research Fellow at the Swinburne University of Technology. She was also the architect of the ‘reset the relationship’ strategy in Tasmania. She utilised ‘love-bombing’ to help reset this relationship and she joined us to discuss her insights.
