A Big Year for Social Policy
2019 was a big year for social policy. A re-elected Coalition (Liberal-National) Government faced increasing calls to deal with the low incomes of people living on Newstart, there was a Royal Commission into the state of Australia’s largely private system of aged care facilities, the National Disability Insurance Scheme was scrutinised and homelessness remained rampant. To recap some of major the policy issues of 2019, we had Senior Lecturer, Dr Mark Liddiard from Curtin University. Dr Liddiard has an extensive background in social policy and research methods and writes widely about youth homelessness, housing policy and broad social policy issues, such as social need and poverty.
