A booster for Long Covid funding
The Australian Government has pledged a further $50 million towards research into Long Covid from the Medical Research Future Fund.
The announcement follows the report of a parliamentary inquiry – released by The House of Representatives Health Committee into Long Covid highlighting nine recommendations including a nationally coordinated research program.
According to the Australian Government’s Department of Health, early research in Australia estimates 20% of people with COVID-19 still experience symptoms after one month, and 5% after three months.
The new funding is aimed at improving knowledge of Long Covid and informing policy and guidelines to improve health outcomes with the condition.
